Have you dreamed of spending a week in Aruba? Have you ever thought it would be nice to have a fireplace to take the chill off a cold winter evening? Are you thinking it’s time to get into shape?

If you were the successful bidder on a 7-day time-share in Aruba, a Rochester electric fireplace, or twelve half-hour sessions with a personal trainer, you have a chance to make these dreams a reality. These are just some of the items that were auctioned at the HLOCF Dinner and Silent Auction on Saturday, March 19th, at the Heron Lake Community Center.

The Theme for the third annual HLOCF Dinner and Silent Auction on Saturday, March 19, at the Heron Lake Community Center was “Past, Present, Future – The Legacy Continues.” A social hour, with cash bar, began at 5:30 p.m.   Dinner was served at 6:30 p.m.

Bidding on the silent auction items opened to the public from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Bidding after 5:30 p.m. was reserved for those attending the dinner. Bidding continued through the dinner until approximately 8:30 p.m. At that time, the high bidders were announced. All transactions were settled on Saturday night.

The catering team of Jean and Amanda Leopold put their “culinary minds together to come up with another enticing menu. They made this year even better than the last.” A variety of hors d’oeuvres preceded the meal of beef tenderloin with a red wine burr blanc sauce, mixed greens with roasted walnuts and strawberries, green beans with slivered almonds, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and petit fours.

This annual event is a fundraiser for the HLOCF. Other fundraisers have included a Best Shot Golf Tournament in September and the Mary Beth Carlson Concert in December. With the combined success of these fundraisers, we have met our goal of reaching $25,000, resulting in a matching fund grant from the Southwest Minnesota Foundation.

The Foundation met recently to review five grant applications. The grant recipients were announced at the banquet.  For information on the grant recipients click on the following link to read about it in the Foundation Newsletter:  Heron Lake-Okabena Community Foundation
